Known for his incredible intelligence, insight and kindness, Rudi was a manifestation of universal intellect. His loss will reverberate through our small but precious community in South Dennis. He always brought depth and perspective to any conversation.
Preceded in death by two brothers in Prague, Czech Republic, he is survived by his spouse Dagmar, their son Eric, as well as two sisters and their respective families. Rudi became passionate in Earth Sciences while studying at Charles University, Prague. He emigrated to Boston in 1968 and obtained his Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1978, Rudi was offered the position of assistant professor at the Department of Earth Sciences at Boston College. His doctorate concentrated on the Katahdin Pluton and thus he took many groups of graduate students every summer to ascend Mt Katahdin, Northern Maine, to analyze and learn about its unique geology.
Always a man of science - his passion with the forces of nature, his understanding of engineering, molecular chemistry, the ebb and flow of the ice ages - all contributed to the enlightenment of thousands of young bright minds. Rudi was always willing to share his knowledge selflessly for the betterment of all.
In his remembrance, there will be a celebration of his life in late spring this year at his home in South Dennis to honor his enduring impact on those who loved and admired him.
