

West Yarmouth- Sheila A. Sylvia, 74, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Mayflower Place Nursing Home with her sister Pat and niece Kate by her side. Sheila was the daughter of the late Eugene Sylvia Jr. and Gertrude Sylvia. She grew up and resided in South Dennis most of her life until a few years ago when her health needs required additional care.
Sheila was born on September 4, 1948 at Cape Cod Hospital. She was the oldest of Eugene and Gertrude’s six children. She attended Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School graduating in the class of 1966. That same year Sheila started what would become a long banking career. She started with the First National Bank of Yarmouth in South Yarmouth. She left banking for a short time and sold Insurance working for Rogers Gray in South Dennis for a few years. Sheila returned to banking working for Cape Cod Bank and Trust in East Harwich and South Dennis. When CCB&T changes began she left to take a position with The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod retiring in 2014. She truly enjoyed helping her customers with their banking needs.
She was a very crafty person. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing always providing family and friends with homemade items. While at Mayflower Place she was introduced to beading which gave her yet another craft to enjoy. Sheila was also a thoughtful person never forgetting birthdays of family and friends.
Sheila is survived by her sister Pat Sylvia-Gonsalves of South Dennis, her brothers, Richard Sylvia of South Dennis, Mark Sylvia of Cotuit and Brian Sylvia of North Carolina, several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene Sylvia Jr. and Gertrude Sylvia, her brother Francis Sylvia and many other loving family members.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 4:30 to 6:30pm at Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home, 729 Route 134, South Dennis. Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, May 12, 2023 at 10:00am at Holy Trinity Church, 246 Main Street (Route 28), West Harwich, MA. Burial to follow at the South Dennis Congregational Cemetery.
