OBITUARY

Stephen Teehan

October 8, 1953August 25, 2020

SOUTH DENNIS – Stephen James Teehan, 66, of South Dennis, passed away unexpectedly on August 25, 2020. Steve was born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts and went on to live in Durango, Colorado, before settling in the town of Dennis in 1987.

A phenomenal husband, son, brother, uncle and father, he leaves deeply joyful memories in the hearts of those he loved: his best friend and wife of 35 years, Mary Loebig; their son Lucas Loebig-Teehan; Steve’s siblings and siblings-in-law, Timothy and Deborah Teehan of Hampden; Maureen (Teehan) and Don Anderson of East Longmeadow; Mark Teehan and Randi Weinberg of Northboro; Judy (Loebig) and Strat Stepan of Denver, Colorado; Susan (Loebig) Phelps of Denver, Colorado; and Doug and Cynthia (Williams) Loebig of Durango, Colorado.

Stephen will be missed by his step-mother-in-law, Carolyn Loebig, of Brevard, North Carolina as well as his adored nephews and nieces: Justin Teehan; Kelly (Teehan) Wilkie and husband, Mark; Michael Paquette; Liz Paquette and her fiancée, Taylor Bramhall; Zach Teehan; Jake Teehan; Jovanna Stepan; Matthew Taylor and wife, Jenny; Brienne Stepan; Caitlin Stepan; Max Loebig; and Mae Loebig.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Patrick Teehan and Loris Elizabeth (Fitzgerald) Teehan of Springfield, Massachusetts.

Steve was a passionate humanitarian and served on the Town of Dennis’ Human Services committee for many years. He had a well-informed mind and cared deeply about issues of social justice and the environment.

Steve acted as foster parent and mentor to many teenagers over his lifetime. He was the best friend anyone could ever want, as well as a wonderful cook and party host. Steve and Mary’s home is known as a place where everyone is welcome and where great food, live music and laughter are a must. Steve will be lovingly remembered by many, many wonderful people throughout the country.

A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Steve’s memory to the World Central Kitchen, a non-profit, non-governmental devoted to providing meals in the wake of natural disasters. (https://wck.org/)

At this time of deep sadness, we remember the joy which always surrounded Mary and Steve. The sounds of music, the warmth of a busy kitchen, and the hugs - always the biggest hugs. Their love for each other radiated throughout many social circles, enriching us all. Steve’s memory will remain in everyone who knew him, and he will be dearly missed.

We are so deeply sorry to hear of Steve's passing! We live on the road across from Steve and Mary, there aren't many houses that participate for trick or treaters.... he not only filled our sons bucket with candy but instantly invited us in, played their musical instruments and showed us so much kindness. ♡

We are so sorry to hear of Steve's passing. Our family has known Mary and Steve since I was a baby and out of so many wonderful memories, one that stands out is having Mary and Steve at our wedding last November. Anyone who knew Steve knows that it is not really a party without Mary and Steve on the dance floor. We will cherish that memory. Our deepest sympathies to Mary and Luke.
