It is with profound sadness and eternal love that we honor the peaceful passing of Walter E. Marrino, 86, of South Dennis, formerly of Shrewsbury, MA, who was surrounded by family on July 16, 2025, after a period of declining health.
Walter was predeceased by his dearly beloved wife and best friend of 38 years, Mary L. ( Sweeney) Marrino, with whom he share many wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and dedication. He was also predeceased by a daughter, Mary Marrino, in 1964, and a sister.
Walter was born on March 4, 1939, in Worcester, MA, the son of the late Walter D. and Catherine C. ( Grace) Marrino. He attended the former Worcester Boys Trade, where he studied to be an electrician, and later Worcester Junior College to study electrical engineering.
After many years in the electrical field, working for various contractors, he also taught electrical classes in night school at Worcester Boys' Trade. Walter was then recruited to start and run the electrical vocational department at Tantasqua Regional Vocational High School in Sturbridge. He was very proud of being asked to start the electrical program, which became highly recognized and grew a waitlist of students. His love for his trade, combined with Mary's support, propelled them to start their own business, R&M Electrical Contractors of Shrewsbury. They were a true team, with Walter running the jobs and Mary managing the office. Walter proudly served in the National Guard as a sharpshooter and medic.
Walter retired from the business after Mary passed, moving to Cape Cod, a place they loved and cherished. They built their beloved home on Cape Cod with plans to enjoy their love of the beach. Cape Cod and the beach were central to him and his family, with many wonderful years spent on Cold Storage, Chapin Beach, and Crowe's Pasture. Before Mary's death, they would spend three months wintering in Naples, FL, and Walter continued this tradition after her passing, playing golf and connecting with friends. Life was never the same for Walter after Mary's passing; he tried to move on, but he was truly lost without his best friend and confidant.
Walter was a very hardworking and dedicated man, always putting his family first. He was known for being direct, but he was also a very sensitive, giving man who was willing to help, despite a tough and intimidating demeanor.
Walter is survived by his dedicated and beloved daughters, Natalie, with whom he lived, and Suellen, and her husband, Kevin P. Fitzgerald of Westborough. He is also survived by his two cherished grandchildren, Joseph and Maryellen Fitzgerald of Westborough, as well as the beloved family Dachshunds Winston, Pippa, and Stella.
The family extends their gratitude to the wonderful and compassionate staff on the Cardiac Floor and the Mugar 6th floor of Cape Cod Hospital for their caring support in keeping Walter comfortable and content. They particularly mention Melanie, Jon, Brandi, Jillian, Faith and Majida for their compassionate care, for which the family will be forever grateful. They also acknowledge his primary care doctor, Dr. Kathryn DeAnzeris, for her steadfast care and commitment.
Per his wishes, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Walter's memory may be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, the American Heart Association, and Tunnels to Towers.
