ANNA C. O’RIORDAN, M.D., 86, died on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Joseph P. O’Riordan, a classmate at Hahnemann Medical College. She was the devoted mother of John F. O’Riordan (Kathi) of Fort Worth TX, Joseph P. O’Riordan (Kim) of Sellersville PA , Catherine A. O’Riordan (Arnaud Trouvé) of Washington DC, Patricia Singer (Larry) of White Salmon, WA, Mary Margaret Millhouse of Allentown, PA and Michael D. O’Riordan (Kathy) of Bluffton, SC. She was the loving grandmother of John O’Riordan, Elizabeth O’Riordan, Anne O’Riordan, Joseph O’Riordan, Nolan Trouvé, Margot Trouvé, Ryan Singer, Lori Singer Tataru, Jeffrey Singer, Alexa Singer, Kory Singer, Joshua Millhouse, Julie Millhouse, Juliet O’Riordan, Grace O’Riordan, and Jacklyn O'Riordan. She was the great grandmother of Lina Tataru. Ann was the loving sister of K. Patricia Sweeney of Hollywood PA and the late George R Connor.
Ann was the daughter of the late George D. and Juliet A. Connor, and was born in Philadelphia. She graduated from Cecilian Academy and Chestnut Hill College (Chemistry). She received her medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College in June of 1957. Her post-graduate training included a rotating internship at Nazareth Hospital, and a Pediatric Residency and fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology both at St Christopher’s Hospital for Children. She completed an M.S. in Pediatrics from Temple University in 1962 and received her certification from the American Board of Pediatrics the same year. She received certification by the sub-board of Cardiology in 1963.
Dr. O’Riordan “Dr. O” deeply loved medicine and teaching, and cared for children for over 50 years at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. As a pediatric cardiologist at St. Christopher’s, she served as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Temple University, Allegheny University of the Health Sciences, MCP/Hahnemann University, and Drexel University School of Medicine. For over 30 years she was also an instructor of Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Her professional achievements included numerous scientific boards, presentations, publications and reviewer for the Journal of Pediatrics from 1968 to 1994.
When her husband was stationed at the Naval Hospital on Guam from 1964 to 1967, she served as Chief, Maternal & Child Health and Crippled Children’s Services and as Acting Director of the Health Department for the Department of Public Health, Government of Guam.
Her professional awards and honors included being elected to AOA Hahnemann Chapter in 1956. She was named the Philadelphia Woman Medical Student of the Year by the American Medical Women’s Association in 1957 and awarded membership in the Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society, in 1962. She was cited as one of the Outstanding Young Women of America in 1966. Her memberships in professional societies included Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Irish and American Pediatric Society.
During her time on Guam, she took the opportunity to travel extensively with her husband throughout Asia. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and France, often on family visits. She became a great sailing enthusiast later in life. She was a member of the Liberty Sailing Club in Philadelphia and enjoyed racing on the Delaware River as well as cruising in the Chesapeake Bay, the Caribbean, the Greek Islands, Croatia, the San Juan Islands and off the coast of France.
Relatives, friends, members of the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia County Medical Societies, Liberty Sailing Club, and personnel of St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children are invited to attend her funeral Mass at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 2nd Street Pike and Knowles Avenue, Southampton, PA. Friends may call at the church at 10:00 A.M.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Jos. P and Anna C. O'Riordan scholarship fund at Drexel University.
