Edward McCreight Bangs

Edward “Ned” McCreight Bangs, 99 years old, passed away on August 25, 2026 at Commonwealth Senior Living in Willow Grove. Ned was a longtime resident of Southampton, Pennsylvania. He was born in Philadelphia to Edward MacIntire Bangs and Margaret Bangs, nee McCreight on October 10, 1926. He graduated from Upper Southampton High School in 1945.

After graduating from high school, Ned took on an important role in the family business, Penn Eyr Farm. There he worked growing tomatoes for Campbell's Soup and raising chickens for the farm’s egg business. After Penn Eyr Farm was sold, Ned went on to sell milk for Gardenville Dairies. In 1955, Ned became a mechanic for the Centennial School District bus garage, where he was later promoted to head mechanic. He retired from the bus garage in 1990.

In his free time, Ned enjoyed roller skating with friends. Ned also enjoyed being outdoors. He loved fishing, camping, and boating. He built a row boat, “Waterskate”, and later a canoe. Ned and the family took many trips around the USA, including one to Alaska. They also traveled outside of the USA to Baja Mexico, and made many trips to Canada. While Ned enjoyed traveling by car, he also enjoyed riding his motorcycle.

Ned enjoyed cheering on his local sports teams, the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Eagles, and Penn State football. He was also a devoted NASCAR and Indy car fan. He spent many years attending the Indianapolis 500 with his son, Steve. Ned and Steve also joined the local YMCA Indian Guides and became members of the Deer tribe. They also shared a love for building and running RC cars.

Ned was preceded in death by Lillian Z. Bangs (spouse), Patricia A. Bangs (spouse), Harold Williams (brother-in-law), Robert J. Richey Jr. (son-in-law), and M. Lois Williams (sister). Ned is survived by Linda Bangs Richey (daughter), Edward Stephen Bangs (son), Danielle Sullivan Bangs (daughter-in-law), and grandchildren Robert James Richey III, Andrew Edward Richey, Kate Allison Bangs, and Edward Matthew Bangs.

Visitation will be held at Wm. Rowen Grant Funeral Home Inc., 659 Street Rd, Southampton, Pennsylvania 18966, on September 3, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at the same location from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

A committal service will take place at Forest Hills Cemetery, 25 Byberry Rd, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 18456, on September 3, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. A luncheon will follow at Maggio’s Restaurant, 400 Second Street Pike, Southampton, PA, 18966, starting at 2:00 p.m.
