On Wednesday, March 17, 2021, Edwin W. Oldroyd, Jr., loving husband, son, brother, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 73. Known by those close to him as Eddie or Ed, he was born on August 31, 1947 in Abington, PA.
After graduating from William Tennent High School, Ed enlisted in the US Air Force and served for four years in the Philippines, South Korea, and Taiwan during the Vietnam War. He met Terry during a leave and fell in love at first sight. He continued to court her while he completed his overseas tour. They married on August 10, 1969 and moved to Cape Canaveral, Florida, to start their new life together. After leaving the Air Force the young couple returned to Pennsylvania to raise a family, most of which was in their cherished home in Ivyland.
Ed spent his career as a computer systems engineer and sales consultant for Storage Technology, Sun Microsystems, and Oracle. He dedicated much of his time to serving others in various missions and ministries in his church, was a Boy Scoutmaster, Adjutant for the American Legion, was Vice President of the Ivyland Council Borough, and chaired the Ivyland Heritage Association. He had a green thumb as was evidenced by beautiful gardens worthy of a magazine cover. He was generous by nature and supported a variety of charities. He could tell a funny joke and talk to anyone, yet still be able to enjoy quiet time alone. No one loved Christmas and holiday traditions more than he did. He also enjoyed traveling and exploring new places. Above all, Ed loved and supported his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Teresa Oldroyd; children and their spouses: Edwin "Wyn" and Franni Oldroyd, Leslie and Mikey Atelus, Jamie Oldroyd and Hector Medina; beloved grandchildren: Michael Oldroyd-Costello, Jenna Oldroyd, Cassidy Oldroyd, Julia Medina, Nathaniel Atelus, and Hannah Atelus; mother, Amelia Robson; sisters: Charlotte Eary, Carol Carver, and Jeanette Canaughton and brother-in-law, James Canaughton; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Jason Oldroyd, his father, Edwin W. Oldroyd, Sr., his step-mother, Florence Oldroyd, his step-father, Robert Robson, and his parents-in-law, Glenn and Leona Martz.
Memorial services will be held this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Newtown Presbyterian Church or American Legion Post 800.
