

Born on May 29, 1921 to Charles Beyer & Ella Asmus and resided in Dongan Hills, S.I., NY. Eleanor attended P.S. 8 in Great Kills, S.I., NY, before working at home to help family. She worked at Maiden Form in NJ, before her marriage to Edward L. Modzelewski from Travis, S.I., NY. She raised 6 children in Travis from 1945-1965. She divorced and moved to different areas of S.I., and worked as a Nurses Aide for various Employers: Willowbrook State School & Hospital & Home for the Retarded, Clove Lakes Nursing Home, and Eger Nursing Home for 10 years, before retiring May 29, 1983. She also worked as a Sub-Teacher for the Richmond County School for Emotionally Disturbed Children (S.I. Aid for Retarded Children).
She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, S.I., NY., and was active in the V.F.W. Auxiliary Oakwood Heights Post# 9587 (S.I.,NY), was a Life Member of Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW, as well as a VFW Lifetime Member of the VFW National Home. She enjoyed traveling with the VFW affiliated Land-Ho-3 Club.
Eleanor received VFW Service Certificates from the VFW of the United States
for Meritorious and Distinguished Service in furthering the Aims and Ideals of the VFW of the United States - 4/23/1977. She also received the VFW of the United States Voice of Democracy Award Citation in sincere appreciation and recognition of valuable cooperation and assistance rendered in behalf of the Voice of Democracy Broadcast Scriptwriting Program. She was a member of AARP, Willowbrook Chapter, S.I., NY, before moving to Largo, FL with her husband, Mitch, in 1991.
While residing in FL she belonged to the American Legion Augustus Ruser, Jr., Post 273,
Madeira Beach, FL, and was a Life Member – VIM, Very Important Member, of the American Legion Auxiliary. And a member of the VFW Holiday Isles Post# 4256, Madeira Beach, FL. She belonged to the Garden Club of Largo, FL, & enjoyed working in her garden at home - where she raised butterflies and set them free. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and fishing.
Survivors are three children, William Modzelewski Moore, Antioch, CA, Joyce E. LaFiura, New Hope, PA, and Nancy J. Polhemus, Hampton, NJ. Also daughter-in-law, Pauline Smith Moore, of Maspeth, NY. daughter-in-law, Darlene Patrick-Moore, Antioch, CA, and two son-in laws, Philip J. LaFiura, NewHope, PA, and Robert Polhemus, Hampton, NJ, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Alfred Beyer, Manchester, NJ.
She had been a loving wife to her husband, Elbert A. “Mitch” Mitchell, whom she married in 1984, and who preceded her in death in June 2007. In October 2007, she returned north to live with her daughter, Joyce LaFiura, in New Hope, PA. She was preceded in death by her beloved sons, Richard Modzelewski (aka Rick Jason), Charles Modzelewski, and Edward Modzelewski Moore.
Her Memorial Service will be held on at 11 AM on Thursday October 10th at the Wm. Rowan Grant Funeral Home, Street Road and Second Street Pike, Southampton, PA. Her family will recive friends from 10 AM until the time of service.
