A 50-year resident of Warminster, PA, Frank was born on August 12, 1932, in Philadelphia, to parents Frank James and Helen (nee Klemmer) Mertens. He graduated from Northeast High School class of 1950. He was the June ‘50 representative to the Northeast Alumni Association. After serving in the U.S. Navy for four years, Frank went on to establish a career as a Prototype Machinist, working for Kulicke and Soffa Industries for over 25 years.
Frank was an avid runner, starting his track and cross-country career at Northeast High. He regularly competed in local races well into his 70’s, earning numerous top finisher awards. He enjoyed travel, music and was a voracious reader. Frank was well-known in the community for the bountiful harvest from his home vegetable garden.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents and his loving and devoted wife, Catherine A. (nee McNally), his sister Helen Horoff, and his son-in law Michael Boyle.
Frank is survived by his wonderful children Frank A., Catherine Rooney (William), Patricia Boyle, Joanne Rooney (John), Elizabeth Walsh and Mary Mertens. He is also survived by his (8) wonderful grandchildren: Sean, Amanda, and Thomas Rooney; William and Anna Kathleen Rooney (Brenton Stewart); Brian (Bethann Kulp), Catherine and Michael Walsh; and his dear friend Margaret Flagler.
A viewing is scheduled for Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 9:30 am at William Rowen Grant Funeral Home 659 Second Street Pike, Southampton, followed by a Memorial Service, and interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
