George was born on January 29, 1939 in Edinburgh, Scotland and immigrated to the United States with his parents, George and Elizabeth, and his sister, Sylvia when he was eight years old. He grew up in Southwest Philadelphia and met the love of his life, Audrey Karpiak, during his high school years. He graduated from Bartram High School and married Audrey on March 7, 1959. They had three children, Diana, George Jr and David. After a couple of moves, they settled in their home in Churchville PA, where they raised their children and lived for nearly 50 years.
George followed in his father’s footsteps and enrolled in the Carpenter’s Apprentice Program and graduated as a Union Carpenter. He spent nearly 30 years as a proud member of Philadelphia Local #1050 where he spent many years as a Foreman for the Hauserman Companies and later as a Superintendent for Jones Ceilings in Cherry Hill, NJ. George had a lifelong passion for construction and was always eager to get involved in a family or friend’s renovation project.
George and Audrey started the Council Rock Ice Hockey Program where their two sons played throughout their high school years. He organized trips for the new program to travel and play in Canada. After retirement, George joined the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Retiree Club #19 as Financial Secretary and was instrumental in its programming and growth for over 20 years. George was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge in Bucks County.
The most important part of George’s wonderful life was his lifelong dedication to his family. His devotion and time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was his greatest pleasure. Whether it was Sunday dinners, holidays, trips to the Beach, children and grandchildren sporting events, vacations or just visiting with the family, George enjoyed this time most of all.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elizabeth Stevenson, and his in-laws, Steven and Marie Karpiak.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey, his sister, Sylvia Hummel, his brother in law, Steven Karpiak Jr and his three children: Diana Germano (Dante), George Jr (Fran), and David. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Carly Stevenson, Lauren Kennedy (Jim), Samantha Hart (Ben), Kelsey Germano (Kyle), Travis Stevenson and eight great-grandchildren: Haviana, Harper, Everly, Danny, Adriana, Maverick, Ruby and Autumn.
