Gustav H Bechtold Jr.

Gustav H. Bechtold, Jr. died peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Artman Lutheran Home in Ambler. He was 99 years of age. Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late The Rev. Dr. Gustavus H. Bechtold and Leona Wetmore Bechtold. He had been a longtime resident of Southampton, PA before moving to Artman.
Gus was a former employee of Virnelson's Bakery, Horn & Hardart Company and Food Fair Stores. He was a Navy veteran of WW II. Gus was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Southampton. He enjoyed playing golf, the violin and other musical instruments and kept his wonderful sense of humor until the very end.
Gustav was the beloved husband of Helen F. (nee Friedrich) Bechtold for 46 years before her death in 1988. He was the devoted father of Henry M. Bechtold (Susan) of Pipersville, Carol E. Donnon (Donald J.) of Bensalem, and Paul G. Bechtold (Beth) of Jamison. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 2 sisters, Esther Bonnet of Baltimore, MD and Leona Souser of Kennett Square, PA. He was preceded in death by his brothers Austin T. and George M.
Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial service at 11 AM, with visitation at 10 AM, on Saturday, July 19th at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 877 Street Rd, Southampton, PA 18966.
