Ron grew up in Southampton with his sister Donna (Ridge) and parents Emma (Ludwig) and Warren Edwards in a home built by his talented father. A graduate of William Tennent High School (1968), he also served in the Army National Guard.
Ron was married to his wife Robin (Weiger) for nearly 50 years until she passed suddenly in 2020. They described one another as “the love of my life” and they supported one another through everything, including Ron’s battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Life was seldom easy, but their many challenges didn’t dim their passion for life together or the family they created. They had three daughters: Laurie (Carl) Bullard, Jennifer (Jerry) Hand and Rebecca Edwards and seven grandchildren: Samantha, Katelyn, Brianna, Claire, Alyssa, Evan and Reece.
Ron was known for his quiet strength, loyalty, excellent memory, craftsmanship, eyebrow wiggles, and determination to overcome every obstacle. Nicknamed “Rescue Ron” he pulled people out of car wrecks during his long drives to and from work sites. Throughout his lifetime, Ron was always a thrill seeker and self described “motorhead”. Fixing up and racing cars, shimmying up trees, and other thrills were harder to pursue later in his life, but he was never without a funny story to tell (complete with sound effects!) His early career was peppered with work at a machine shop, heavy equipment operation, plumbing, some carpentry and even snow plowing. He never stopped carrying along his tools and trying to make small repairs when the big projects were out reach.
We invite all family and friends who loved Ron to attend a Celebration of Life which will be held outside his family’s home in Southampton, where he grew up and returned to live the last few years of his life. The date will be announced soon, so please check back to see when it’s added to the comments below by his daughters.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
