Born in the Bronx, NY, on July 11, 1932, William moved with his family to Philadelphia, PA, in early childhood. He graduated from Olney High School, where he served as captain of the golf team.
William was an Army veteran who served during the Korean War, protecting the Panama Canal. After returning home, he worked as a baker at Peter Pan Bakery in Philadelphia. Though his career would later take him in a different direction, baking remained a lasting expression of care for his family members. He continued to bake throughout his life, creating cakes for family members’ special occasions.
Following his service and his years at the bakery, William built a lifelong career in commercial roofing, first as an estimator and then as a project manager. He helped design many roofs for commercial businesses.
Beyond work, William found joy in building and flying remote controlled airplanes and was a former member of the DVRC.
A devoted Catholic, William’s life was grounded in faith. His religious devotion was a guiding presence - steady, sincere, and deeply rooted.
William is survived by his brother, Joseph Pompilii (Geri); his step-children, Janet and Leo Fuchs; his nieces and nephews, Louise Pompilii, Nancy Koenig (Adam), Anthony Pompilii, Joseph Pompilii, Louis Pompilii (Kim), and William Pompilii (Teresa). He is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.
He is predeceased by his loving and devoted wife, Ruth; his parents, Joseph and Rose Pompilii; and his brother, Anthony Pompilii.
William lived a full and long life, may he now rest in peace.
