Benjamin Kerr Minton

Born in Ahoskie, NC on March 2, 1956, Benjie was the third child of Cebron George Minton and Addie Faye Lassiter. He grew up in Raleigh, NC in the Methodist Home for Children and attended Broughton High School. Benjie attended college at East Carolina University where he became a brother of the Kappa chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and earned a Bachelor's degree in Business. After college, Benjie had a successful career in pharmaceutical and medical device sales throughout North Carolina for 40 years.

Benjie spent his summers in high school and college working at Camp Seafarer in Arapahoe, NC as a “food service kitchen boy”. There he formed incredible bonds with 20 young men, most of whom have remained some of his best friends.

Benjie was an active alumnus of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He received several leadership recognitions throughout his lifetime, including; Founder and First President of the Kappa chapter Alumni Volunteer Corporation, Honorary President of the Omicron Kappa Iota (OKI) chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon, founding member of the Kappa chapter Alumni Hall of Fame, and his most recent award – the Kappa chapter Sigma Phi Epsilon House dedication to him at ECU Homecoming October 10, 2026.

Benjie often stated that his Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity was his second home and the relationships he built with his brothers became his second family. Soon after Benjie and Karen were married, the Annual Sig Ep Beach weekend continued from college days and is now a 45-year tradition, bringing together 20 brothers and their families every year.

Benjie was well known and regarded for his many passions and larger-than-life personality. He loved history, music, cooking, and wine. He held a fiery passion for ECU football and baseball. He played the banjo with a vigor not always shared by those around him. Benjie loved to travel with his wife and close friends, discover and listen to music with his daughter, and trade movie quotes and home DIY tricks with his son.

Benjie is survived by his college sweetheart and wife of 45 years, Karen Minton; daughter, Taylor Minton and her fiancé Jeremy Malanka, of Wilmington, N.C., son, Ben Minton and his wife Whitney Minton, of Bahama, N.C. and one grandchild; Samuel Minton.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the home of Bart and Cynthia White from 7:00-9:00 pm, 1817 Ridge Rd., Raleigh, NC.

Benjie's Celebration of Life Service with reception to follow will be held on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 11:00 am at Edenton St. Methodist Church, 228 W. Edenton St. Raleigh, NC.
