Betty Lou Breeden Browning, age 89, of Woodbridge, Virginia passed away peacefully on Friday, March 25, 2022. Betty was born September 27, 1932, the oldest daughter of the late Lester and Clara Breeden.
Betty Lou grew up in Manassas, VA, with sisters Carol (deceased) and Nancy. Growing up on a farm, she later went to James Madison University and became a school teacher. Betty married Hugh when they both were starting their careers in public education. She taught business courses in Northern Virgina at Garfield H.S. and North Stafford H.S. to the delight of her students and fellow faculty.
She had many fond memories of friends with whom she stayed in touch with all her life. Betty Lou enjoyed traveling with her family and her sister Carol. Betty was a loving and giving person who never met a stranger. She loved animals and loved to see her son and daughter-in-laws cats when they visited. If a life can be defined by people you have helped and supported, Betty had a life fully filled with such successes. Her smile made you smile and she made friends easily. Her caretakers in Ash, NC, where she lived her last four months, even realized how special she was and were devastated when she passed.
Survivors include her son, Dr. James Burton Browning and wife Zada of Supply, NC; a sister, Nancy Gilley of Herndon, VA; two brother-in-laws, Brooks Browning and wife Patsy, and Larry Browning and wife Suzie; and a sister-in-law, Elaine and husband Joe Lyle.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on April 9th in the Mount Castle Funeral Home Chapel in Woodbridge, VA.
In lieu of flower memorials may be sent to: SOAR or to the charity of one's choice in her memory.
