Growing up in Fayetteville, there were four of us friends that were inseparable... Martha, Lisa, Beth, & Louise (me). We lived at each other's homes for years... after school, on weekends, & in summer. So Betty Lou was one of my childhood moms.
The memory I'm going to share is a recent one though. A couple of years ago when I was visiting Martha, we went to see Betty Lou and Tom at their Oak Island home. She was giving me a tour when she showed me a room full of vintage dolls. A museum-quality collection!! My favorites were the Dagwood & Blondie dolls: ) All these years of knowing her, & I'd never seen this collection! Then we took a newer chicken doll & we all did the chicken dance & laughed until we had tears in our eyes: ) I love that memory!
Having lived in Arizona for 25 years, I'm grateful I was home in NC last year when Betty Lou had her 84th birthday, & my mother & I were able to attend her party. She wore her floppy birthday cake hat with candles on top, & she was the darling of the restaurant! It was a very happy celebration: )
Thank you for helping to raise me, Betty Lou!! Love, Louise

My heart goes out to Kathy Linda, Martha, Danny, & their families. As you know, Betty Lou & I were very good friends, & stayed friends, even though we both went our separate ways. The memories are so numerous . She had such a jovial persona, & was always ready to help someone. I remember her chicken & pastry dinners she would have on her birthday & inviting the neighbors. Her beautiful $20 Christmas trees she had every year, & thinking at that time if was a lot to spend for a tree. I looked for $10 ones. 😏 The garage sales we would get up early on Sat morns & find, our fun times with the children in the pool, our "Bridge" night with the girls, & so many more. I so admired her for teaching her children responsibilities, as they grew up. She picked a nickname for me like no other, which was " Beearbra". I shall always think of her as a dear friend. Rest in peace my friend.

I know my Mom greeted you with open arms when she saw you in Heaven. I am so grateful you spoke to my dad over Thanksgiving. I regret not speaking to you over the phone, too, but I have your messages and your referring to me by the nickname you made up and called me my entire life....
So it's only appropriate that I say I love you and thanks for always making me laugh and for helping me find a job after college.
I Love you,
Missymary ❤

We lived across the street on Carolina Av. I have fond childhood memories of Betty Lou. I remember her once wearing flip flops in the snow. So sorry for your loss!!
