

Mrs. McKee was born June 13, 1929, in Whiteville, the daughter of the late Thomas J. High and Bertha G. High. She worked for 27 years for Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia.
She retired in 1987 and moved to Oak Island, where she was an active member of Oak Island Presbyterian Church. She served as the Sunday School Superintendent for several years, taught children’s Sunday School and served in the community as a Stephen Minister.
Mrs. McKee was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Boyd Lamar McKee; and a sister, Wilbur Smith of Rockingham.
Survivors include her two sons, Michael B. McKee of San Jose, California, and Ronald W. McKee of Hampton, Virginia; a granddaughter, Paige Robbins and husband Charles (“Chuck”) Robbins; four great-grandchildren, Chase, Regan, Ashley and Andrew; a sister, Dorothy Ballard of Wilmington; three brothers, James High and wife Kathleen of Burnsville, North Carolina, Rudolph High and wife Violet of Greenville, North Carolina, and Harold High of Hamlet, North Carolina; nine nieces, three nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 20, in the Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel in Southport. Burial will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens in Wilmington.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
