Burton Kellock Myers Jr.

Burton Kellock “Burt” Myers, Jr. 92 of Southport, passed away on May 16, 2018.
Mr. Myers was born June 22, 1925 in Wilmington, the son of the late Burton and Elizabeth Moore Myers. He was a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy as well as the University of North Carolina. Burt served with the Merchant Marines in WWII. Mr. Myers was a Certified Public Accountant. He was a founding member of the Rotary Clubs of Falls Church, Virginia and Southport; he was named a Paul Harris Fellow in both clubs. Achieving the rank of Eagle Scout was his most proud accomplishment. While at Carolina, Burt played on the tennis team. He was a previous Wilmington city tennis champion; had coached many Wilmington area tennis teams, and had worked as the tennis pro on Bald Head Island.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Jean Myers; five children Burton Kellock Myers, III and wife Ann, Andrew Moore Myers, Worth Glover Myers, Nina Margaret Pearson, and Gladys Elizabeth VanBeek and husband Robert; and a granddaughter, Marie Alexander VanBeek.
Mr. Myers was preceded in death by his first wife, and the mother of the children, Margaret Glover Myers.
Mr. Myers was a member of St. Philips Episcopal Church, where a celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
