Capt. Wayne Ludlum

Capt. Ivon "Wayne" Ludlum, also known as "Rabbit", age 79 of Southport, passed away on April 11, 2018.

Capt. Ludlum was born in Southport on February 3, 1939. He was the son of the late Ivon and Mildred Aldridge Ludlum. Capt. Ludlum was a veteran of the US Coast Guard and was a Cape Fear River Pilot for 20 years. He was a lifelong member of Southport Baptist Church and a member of St. John's Masonic Lodge #1 A.F. and A.M. Capt. Ludlum enjoyed fishing, shrimping, and dove hunting.

Survivors include his two daughters Evelyn Teal Kesmodel and husband Marty, and Ellen Richards all of Southport; five grandchildren, Carolyn Garner and husband David, Daniel Butler, David Butler and wife Carolyn, Nicole Smith, and Natalie Richards - Aman and husband Chris; four great-grandchildren Nathaniel Taylor, Caleb Butler, Davis Smith, and Heidi Butler; two great-great-grandchildren, Brennan Taylor and Ashton Taylor, and a niece Amanda Lumsden.

Capt. Ludlum was preceded in death by his wife Laura Ludlum, a daughter Barbara Moore, a grandson Harold Perkins, and a sister Beverly Winebar.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, April 14, 2018 in the Southport Baptist Church Chapel. Reverend Charles Drew and Reverend Gene Tomlinson will officiate. The family will have visitation at the church prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. Burial will follow the service in the Northwood Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Dr. McNulty and staff for the excellent care for the past 20 years.
