

Mrs. Stewart was born December 27, 1939 in Worcester, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Leander Pierre and Mary Elizabeth Canavan Leger. She graduated from New Woodland Prep School and went to South High Community School. Mrs. Stewart worked at Fairlawn Hospital as a Lab Technician then attended Cape Fear Technical College to pursue her degree as a Licensed LPN. She also attended Southeastern Community College for her continuing education hours. Mrs. Stewart worked as a Lab Technician in Worcester, Massachusetts from 1959-1961, and in Rochester, New York in 1961. After moving to Southport, Mrs. Stewart worked as an LPN staff nurse at Ocean Trail Convalescent Center in 1976, staff nurse at Dosher Hospital from 1978-1986 and at the Health Department in 1994. Mrs. Stewart was a “chore provider” supervisor for the Department of Social Services from 1986-1991, a Dollar Tree employee from 1997-2002, Coastal Companion Care from 2002-2008 and worked private duty nurse with clients until 2015. She was involved in many volunteer organizations including: Hospice, Dosher Flea Market, Providence House Sheltered Treasures, Community Advisory Board of Brunswick County Nursing Homes, VFW Ladies Auxiliary Chaplain, Program Chairman for Seniors at The Lakes, Brunswick Little Theater Group, Boiling Spring Lakes Community Center, New Hope Clinic, CARE Ministry at First Baptist Church of Boiling Spring Lakes, Stephen’s Ministry, and Evangelism Explosion.
Survivors include her husband whom she married June 10, 1974, Randolph “Randy” Stewart of Boiling Spring Lakes; son John Banks and daughter Leanne Yates; step-son Randy Stewart Jr. and wife Micha; step daughter Gaylene James; brother John Leger and wife Beverly; grandchildren, Kailey and Tristan and step grandchildren Mindy and Sam; and a special exchange student Shino Suzuki of Japan.
A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Boiling Spring Lakes Baptist Church with Reverend John Roy officiating.
