My Navigator on the infamous Greeneville.  Good dude. I remember he kept his silver dolphins inside his uniforms because they were close to his heart.  We would always have good banter in the Wardroom after meals and BS about life and stuff like that and his affinity for biscuits and sausage gravy.  You were in my thoughts today Nav and I was looking you up to shoot the breeze like back in 07 but I came across this and my heart broke.  Rest in Paradise sir.  You were one of the truest O-Gangers who kept it real with us enlisted grunts.

To Tracy, Judy and I contracted with Dave last year to oversee some renovation work on our home.  Dave and the guys did a great job to be sure, but getting to know Dave was the best part.  He was a great guy, kind of an old fashioned handshake is good, honest as they come kind of person, salt of the earth.  How he was able to juggle all of his various projects on his phone I'll never know, but he was highly intelligent and seemed to be able to keep track of lots of things in his head.  Dave told me when he was diagnosed, but I had no idea that his illness would progress so quickly.  Tracy, we are so sorry for your loss but are comforted in knowing he is now in heaven! We knew David for less than a year, but connected with him on several common interests.   We had him do some work on our home, and much of the time when he was there was spent talking about those interests.  I quickly realized David was a gentleman of great character and honesty, and thought of him as a great new friend.  We spoke about his recent European river trip, and planned to discuss in detail once we "caught up".  Sadly that won't now happen.  Our condolences go out to Tracey, their friends and family on the loss of this special person.

I met David 10 years ago when I went to work at Forsyth Tech Lineman Academy,through Colby’s scholarship……I knew then, this “Dude is a good MAN!!!, I fought back the tears  every time I heard his story……he came to every Graduation since then, 4 times a year!!!!!! 4-5 hour drive,except the last one…. Didn’t know he had health issues….. So sorry to hear about his passing, we will never know how many young men’s lives he has affected,  may GOD be with the family during this difficult time 🙏

Dave was a great friend, but he was so much more. A novelist, philanthropist, husband, father, sailor, general contractor, officer, gentleman, I could go on and on, but you get the idea. He was larger than life and lived it to the fullest. I’m gonna miss you Brother. Until Valhalla. We have the watch.

Dear Tracey and Family,

We were so deeply saddened to hear about David's passing. It's hard to imagine Oak Island without him. He was truly indispensable to Aaron and me when we first moved here, and we didn't know a soul. He was always there to help, and knew exactly who to call for anything we needed to fix up around the house. We always appreciated that so much.

It always made us smile when you, Tracey interacted with Salem, over oversized Maine Coon, especially knowing how much you wanted one! David was always so thoughtful, reminding you of all the other beloved furry members of your family.

David's kindness and willingness to help made such a difference in our lives, and we know he touched the lives of many others in the same way. He will be greatly missed. Please know that we are thinking of you all during this difficult time, and if there's anything at all we can do, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Dave was a very kind man and a Submarine Veteran brother who always had us laughing.  Although I never served active duty alongside him, I did get the privilege of sitting next to him on our float during a couple of parades, joking and laughing the entire time.  Dave will be missed by his brothers, friends, and family. Gone way too soon.

September 29, 2023: 40th Anniversary of ERHS winning the NC State 3A Football Championship. David and I were teammates many times throughout the years. David and I grew up in the same trailer park in Climax, but David was a year behind me in school. I think we first met playing together on a YMCA basketball league hosted at Grays Chapel Elementary. We were pretty inseparable growing up!

1988: David and I heading out to Daytona Beach from the base in Orlando. David joined the Navy about 6 months before me. He came home his first Christmas in the Navy and tried to talk my brother into joining and I joined...lol.

Dave, words cannot express what your brothers of the "phin " are feeling.  You were larger than life itself.  Such a kind and generous soul. Always there to help in some way. You will be missed. Until we all muster again  and drink to the deep which brought us together in this brotherhood.  Sailor rest your oar. We have the watch.

Never thought this would be happening. You had the most positive, can do attitude. I prayed for you so many times and now I will pray for your family. I will miss your jokes and really just you. I only met David once. When he and a bunch of Ram fans came to Atlanta for the game. He was obviously a leader and bigger than life. And a super nice guy. Just being friends on FB I could see he was a straight shooter and a guy who really cared about his family and friends. My sincere condolences to all of his beloved family.

Dave was a super human being and an American Warrior.  Although I only knew him for a few years, his impact is lasting.  Thank you for your service to our country and our local community.  Rest in Peace Dave and our prayers for the family!

Dave loved the Rams, even though I was a cowboys fan I supported him and got to spend every chance I could with him.

Dave took me on my first helicopter pig hunt. We had an awesome time. He was definitely a great friend but truly my brother.

In a million years, this is something I never thought I would see! Dave was bigger than life and  lived it so well! All I can really say is his love for Tracey and his family, both by blood and  friendships, was apparent in everything he did. He never met a stranger and will be missed by all those that was blessed to have him in their life.

David was my best friend. I knew David and his family my entire life. We served our country with  honor and I was able to serve with him a portion of his naval career.  He was a friend the stuck closer than a  brother.  He gave me business advice and was always there when I needed him to listen. He was the most intelligent person I ever knew.
