Lori was born in Philadelphia, PA, was raised and lived in Somerdale, NJ. She attended Sterling High School and studied at the Pennsylvania Banking Academy at Bucknell University.
She was married to Barry Thompson on September 13th, 1975 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, and this year celebrated 50 years of marriage together.
Lori had a varied career beginning with Trust Accounting . After relocating to Louisiana and North Carolina, she worked in various pre-school programs. Later in Virginia she became a teaching assistant at an Elementary School where she organized and taught in the computer lab. Seeing children succeed and enjoying learning was her great joy. Her heart lit up as she watched hundreds of her students discover what they could do on a computer.
Retiring to Southport, NC, Lori became involved with Communities in Schools (CIS), initially working in after school programs. She was passionate about working with under privileged children and helping them accomplish more than they would have without CIS.
She ended her working life at Bachara & Essey Law on Oak Island. She managed the front desk and eventually became an Administrative Legal Assistant, which really means she did a lot!
Her deep faith and love for God carried her through life and her battles with cancer. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and great friend to many. She was most happy when she became a GiGi (Grandmother) and doted on Annabelle.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Dolores Sheehan.
Lori survived by her husband Barry, children Christopher, Andrew and his wife Angela, and granddaughter Annabelle, also by her brothers Michael and wife Eileen, Kevin and wife Kim, Tim and wife Theresa.
A funeral mass will be held at a later date at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare at lifecare.org or Communities in Schools at cisbrunswick.org
Lori’s family wishes to extend our sincere gratitude to all who loved her, brought her joy and laughter, and for those who cared for her in illness.
