

Doris D. Newman was born April 11,1933 in Brunswick County, NC and grew up on the family farm off Danford Rd in Bolivia with her parents, Ephraim and Jewell Sellers Danford, and her six brothers and sisters, Veona, Lenwood, Helen, Travis, Bethea, and Hugh. She graduated from Bolivia High School in 1951 and went on to complete her Diploma in Business Studies at King’s Business College in Charlotte, NC the following year. In 1955 she married Guy Willetts and they had two children, Sabrina Willetts Serrin (Tom) and Jeffrey Willetts (Beth).
The family lived in Bolivia, New Bern, and Cary, NC, moving to Northern Virginia outside of Washington, DC in 1972. While living in Annandale and Oakton communities, she was an active member of Parkwood Baptist Church, singing in the choir, teaching Girls in Action, and assisting in the Mother's’ Day Out program.
During her working life Doris was a bookkeeper for several local businesses, retiring from her professional life as the financial controller for B.M. Smith and Associates, Arlington, VA.
In 1994 she married Neil Newman and moved to Boiling Springs Lakes, Southport, NC. During her many happy years in Boiling Spring Lakes, Doris gave her energies to travel, in the United Kingdom and across the United States; to her church, the FBC of Boiling Spring Lakes, serving as Treasurer and on the Kitchen Committee; to supporting her local community, through the Garden Club; and most importantly, to loving on her ever-growing family: her grandchildren, John Daniel, Benjamin (Nicole), Andrew, Rebekah (Cris), and Jordan (Adriana); great grandchildren, Brynlea, Jimmy, Summer, Delaney Mae, Sasha, and Sullivan; Neil’s daughter’s, Christina Willetts (Harry), Lisa Reynolds (Duane), Cathy Newman Buck, and their children and grandchildren.
A service of Worship and Celebration of Life will be held on November 7th, 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Boiling Spring Lakes, Southport, NC.
