

Emily was born Emily Woods Kurrie on December 10, 1940 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Emily Pearson Kurrie and the late Thompson Kurrie. She graduated from Pine Crest Preparatory School, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and attended St. Mary of the Woods College in Terre Haute, Indiana and Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1960, she was named an Indianapolis 500 Festival Princess, and was an active member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority in college and for many years following. Emily married Robert Frank Youngblood in Ft. Lauderdale on April 11, 1964 and was a loving homemaker and mother through corporate moves to Port of Spain, Trinidad, Brevard, NC, Silver Spring, MD, Sparta, NJ, and Yardley, PA. She and Bob retired to Southport, NC in 1999 where she attended St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, volunteered at the Southport Visitor Center, and enjoyed her lifelong passion for bridge.
She will be missed by many, and leaves behind her husband of 52 years, Robert Frank Youngblood of Southport; daughter, Jennifer Nixon Youngblood of Vienna, Virginia; brother, Thompson Kurrie, Jr. and his wife Merry Jo of Valdosta, Georgia; sister-in-law Alice Youngblood Kraus; and nephew and nieces, Thompson Kurrie III, Cindy Fotheringham, Kathryn “Kit” Kraus, Lee S. Kurrie, and Mary Margaret Kurrie Williams.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 1 at 11 o’clock in the morning at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church Chapel of the Cross. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
