Coach Doane was an extremely sweet man. He was a teacher and I considered him my friend. He was one of the best teachers I ever had.  I know he is missed by all his love ones and all of us that had him at south Brunswick high school 

Today I learned of Coach Doane’s loss and I wish to extend my belated condolences to Linda and Coach Doane’s entire family.  Coach and I worked together at South Brunswick High School and we became very close friends,  We played a lot of golf together during the time we worked together and even after I left South Brunswick as well.  I always enjoyed his company and I benefitted greatly from our close friendship.   When Coach Doane was younger he was clearly a superior athlete and even at his advanced age he was an excellent golfer with a unique knowledge of the game.  My one regret is that after I retired from public education, my wife and I began to focus more on traveling and grand children and I failed to sustain my regular golf events with Coach Doane.  As a result I failed to hear of his illness and his subsequent loss.  Sadly, I did not hear of his death until today.  Coach Doane was a wonderful man, an outstanding coach and teacher, and a friend who I will admire until I pass as well! 

As a player at Springbrook High School in the early 80's and competing in the same league as Seneca Valley we would have the opportunity to face Coach Doane twice per season and again in summer competition.  His teams were disciplined units, loaded with talent and a fierce desire to win.  They were mirror images of the man who led them.  His presence on the sideline was unmistakable.  While my teammates and I were driven to win ourselves, all of us to a man, respected greatly Coach Doane and his program.  We considered both to be among the elite of Montgomery County.  I very much enjoyed competing against him as I knew that when we won, we had beaten one of the best!

Coach Doane also ran the Blair Summer League which we competed in.  It was there that my parents and myself had an opportunity to get to know Coach Doane on a bit more of a personal level.  While I did not have the pleasure of being coached by him I certainly did benefit from scraps of his basketball IQ, wisdom and advice that he would freely share.  

He was quite a gentlemen and I am the better for knowing him.

Rest easy coach and take pride in now being able to look down and see the lasting legacy on all of the lives you have touched for the better.  The world is a lesser place now without you.

We extend our deepest sympathy to the Doane family. Coach Doane was very special in our household because he coached our son for four years in golf at SBHS. He was an encourager and shared advice and many of his life experiences as he led the team to the state tournaments all four years. We thank his family for sharing him for many afterschool hours during those years and appreciate all he did to give his golf team great opportunities. We will always remember Coach Doane fondly.

My deepest condolences to the Doane Family. Coach Doane was instrumental to my development as a young man on and off of the court (Seneca Valley HS-Germantown,MD Class of 1986). His leadership helped push me to achieve some of my early important life goals. I have never forgotten his efforts to get me ready for the real world. Privately and with respect he shared with me his life advice and to this day I still use it. God bless him. May he rest in peace.

So sorry to hear about Coach Doane's passing.  He was certainly a large part of my Seneca Valley experience, even beyond basketball.  He will be missed.

I pray that God give you the strength to get through this difficult time for your family. My prayers are with your family Jeff...Coach Doane had some strong lungs on the basketball court he was a winner with cougars basketball team! He will be missed, I'm gonna try to get to memorial service if not I'll leave a card God bless!

Never played ball for south, but I remember EVERYBODY talking about him coaching. He worked the cougars to be better. Better on that court & also a better person! I knew who coach Doane was, & from what I could see he was a nice guy.

 My fondest memory is when I went to an awards ceremony for a scholarship I received. I had to make a speech. Before the speech he spent a good hour just talking about real life experiences. He had me laughing so hard with tears running down my face. By the time it was time for me to give the speech I was a wreck. I loved that man!

He was a great coach and told it like it is ,I was always happy when he was a Sub in my class, he always made it fun and loved hearing him talk about his life and plez don't ever get him mad,he would turn so red ,u will be missed coach Doane ,there will never be another one like u ,RIP!!!!

I personally loved how fired up he got during games. Sometimes it was tough to take when he would get on you about something pretty intensely, but he would always follow it up with words of encouragement even if it wasn't until after the game. He was passionate about the game and he showed it, but he didn't get enough credit for how much he cared about the kids he coached also. My other fondest memories were from when I wasn't even playing for him yet. That time period in the Preston McGriff, Carl Parker, Greg Williams years up to the Josh White, Scooter Moore (I know I'm forgetting a lot of other star and contributing players) years were absolutely electric. South Brunswick basketball was the hottest ticket in those years between Doane's teams and Mike Isenberg's outstanding women's teams. Gym was absolutely packed for every game with closed circuit televisions having to be set up in the cafeteria as well. I still remember how much energy was in those games. It made everyone want to aspire to play for Coach Doane and the South Brunswick Cougars. I didn't always get along with him especially when I played for him at Brunswick but years later, he would still talk to me for 30 minutes or more anytime he saw me. I won't ever forget him, and I really hope South Brunswick will give him his due (if they haven't already) for everything he accomplished both in basketball and golf. Aside from the '88 baseball team, no one created a stronger program with so much school spirit and togetherness as Doane did during that run in the late 80's to early 90's. He was one of a kind.

So sorry to hear the news. Coach Doane was tough but he knew how to push us to our greatest potential. He was indeed a great coach and friend. He's leaving a huge mark at South Brunswick. Prayers are with Mrs. Linda and the family!

I used to hate when Coach Jenkins was sick and Coach Doane coached us. He was so intense. What I didn't understand then that I understand now was his passion for the game and the fact that he saw what we (the girls) could be. He saw the potential we had and wanted to bring out the best in us. What I appreciate most though is that when he was my colleague, he took me aside and gave me the advice that no on else would. And, because Israel Sorenson is my son, Coach Doane looked out for him--he wanted the best for him. RIP Coach Doane.

This man is the reason I am the coach I am today. He gave a 19 year old kid a chance at fulfilling his dream of being a college basketball coach when no one would have ever thought to do so. I will miss our talks on what to do in each situation. I am so happy that I had a chance to give him his flowers when he was living and tell him what he meant to me. I even had him come in and coach a couple of practices when we opened the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center (which was his dream), ten years after I had succeeded him as the coach of BCC Dolphins Men's Basketball. The unique part of that was that we used what he taught us to win the championship and make the school's first trip to the national tournament later that season. I know Coach and Dean Smith, Jimmy V and the coaches in heaven going to be having one heck of a clinic.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

I had the pleasure of working with Coach Doane when he started the basketball program at Brunswick Community College.  He was a great man.  He worked had to get that program started.  He was totally committed to the young men he coached and to the college.  He will be missed.

Coach Dome was my son (Matt Fisher) basketball coach at SBHS. Awesome man and coach. His family will be in our thoughts and prayers!

Coach was one of my favorite teachers. He was also one of my favorite customers at Pizza Hut. He will be greatly missed. Coach was a great man. Sending my condolences to his family.

As we started our weekend at ECU Team basketball Camp this weekend, the man that got me into coaching high school basketball passed away.  He taught me work ethic, organizational skills, and basketball strategies....but mostly, he taught me how rewarding it is to work with all the young men that share the passion of the game that we love.   Thank you Coach Doane....I appreciate you taking a chance on me...
