Born 1933 in Jamaica NY, he attended high school and college in Brooklyn, graduating from St. John’s University in 1954. Joining the Navy in 1955, he married Mary Gallagher from South Ozone Park NY the following year. In the course of his naval career, he served aboard aircraft carriers in the Second, Sixth and Seventh Fleet and had numerous duty assignments in the Washington DC area, during one of which he earned a Masters Degree from the University of Maryland. He retired as a Captain in 1978 as the Director of Policy & Plans for the Intelligence Community, with among other awards a Legion of Merit, and then worked as a civilian for CIA, DIA and E-Systems (Raytheon Corp). Retiring a second time in 1992, he and Mary moved to Caswell Beach in 1995, where they built their house in the Arboretum overlooking the 2nd green of the Oak Island Golf Course. Serving at various times as a Caswell Beach Commissioner, Chairman of the Sacred Heart Church Finance Council and a Director of both the Southport Lions Club and the Arboretum Community Association, he was also a volunteer with the Lower Cape Fear Hospice. Author of ten books and a golf enthusiast, his prime interest lay with his family; he and his wife routinely visited them in various parts of the country and held numerous "Beach Week" family get-togethers in Caswell Beach.
Surviving in addition to Mary are sons Rich, Jim, John and Frank, daughters Ann and Alex, along with fourteen grand/great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please make any contributions to the Navy/Marine Corps Relief Society.
