Fred was the youngest son of Arthur and Ruth Nutt of Queens NY and was raised in Flushing NY with his older brother Edward. Fred earned his degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of South Florida and began his professional career at DuPont in Pennsylvania. Fred’s passion for life led him beyond the office and in his spare time he became an avid hunter, skier, ski patrol member, and an EMT. Fred was always ready to help others and lend a hand in times of need. If he wasn’t on the slopes or in the woods, he could be found on his back porch enjoying the nature around him with one of his beloved golden retrievers.
Later in life, Fred moved to North Carolina to be closer to his brother and extended family. In NC, he continued serving his community as an EMT and became a familiar face and friend to many while working at the local ABC store. He loved crabbing and his old blue jeep.
Fred lived life to its fullest, loved being outdoors, and was always in motion. Wherever Fred was, there was a story being made. Fred’s legacy is one of laughter (a true prankster), loyalty, and love. He was never far from his good friends, a cold beer, and an endless fountain of stories, each one more vivid and entertaining than the last.
Fred will be missed dearly by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, and his zest for life.
He is survived by his niece, Elizabeth Tormey-Radman and her husband Scott, nephew, Eric Platow and his wife Lisa, his grand-niece Zoe, and his grand-nephews, Connor, Carson, and Ty.
A gathering to celebrate Fred’s life will be held July 24th at 5pm at the Caswell Dunes Homeowners Building, 45 Pinehurst Drive, Caswell Beach NC.
In lieu of flowers, simply spend a little extra time outdoors, crack open a cold beer with loved ones, and tell a good story. That’s how Fred would want to be remembered.
