George was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey to the late George and Alma (Darke) MacLeod on February 17, 1940.
He graduated from Perth Amboy High School and enlisted in the Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1963. During his 84 years, he was an avid bowler and card player. Since residing in Southport, he made numerous friends. He loved going to the river front every morning where he was joined with many others to sit and enjoy each other’s company and feed the dogs and birds. His other activities included playing poker and other card games at his club house in his community as well as bowling with yet another group of friends every week.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita MacLeod; son, George Henry MacLeod III; grandson, Christopher MacLeod; and granddaughter, Christina Huegl.
He is survived by his son, Stephen Hiatt (Michelle); daughter, Rebecca Culver; brother, Larry MacLeod (Ellen Kay); granddaughters, Laura Huegl and McKenna MacLeod; niece, Michelle Oberst; nephew, Larry MacLeod; and several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Service will be held at Peacock, Newman and White Funeral Home, 1411 N. Howe Street, Southport NC on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 12 Noon with the visitation beginning at 11:00AM.
A light luncheon will follow the service.
Interment will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 2:00PM at Alpine Cemetery in New Jersey (703 Amboy Ave., Perth Amboy, NJ 08861).
