She was a graduate of Williamsport High School class of 1965, a graduate of Bloomsburg University, class of 1969, earning a B. S. in Secondary Education/Spanish. Holly then went on to earn her Master’s Degree of Education and Supervisory Certificate from Arcadia University.
Holly dedicated her life to education having spent 42 years as an educator in various capacities. She began her career in Williamsport where she taught Spanish at Loyalsock High School. After moving to Montgomery County, PA, in 1970, Holly taught at the Upper Moreland Middle School for five years. In 1978, Holly began her tenure with the Central Bucks School District where she served as a middle school and high school Spanish teacher before moving into the position of Instructional Staff Developer. This position brought Holly great joy as she helped classroom teachers improve their instruction while at the same time learning a great deal from her colleagues about the practices that best affect student learning. In 1998, Holly left Central Bucks to join the administrative staff at the Council Rock School District where she served as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for eight years.
Following retirement Holly continued her work in education serving as an education consultant to many school districts throughout the USA.
While living in Southport, NC, Holly joined the St. James Service Club where she served as Fundraising Chair planning and organizing events to benefit Brunswick County nonprofits. She served as both vice-president and president of the organization. She also served her community in the role of Girl Scout Leader and Sunday School Teacher. Holly was an ordained elder at the Southport Presbyterian Church where she served on both the Finance and Personnel Committees. As a member of the Finance Committee, Holly also co-chaired the church’s Stewardship Campaign.
She married Rick Mayberry in 1999 and they had 27 joyous years together.
Along with her husband she is survived by her children, Bryon T. (Kristin) Lomas, Kathryn Lomas Bancroft, Christopher H. Lomas and Laura (Glenn) Mayberry-Thayne; grandchildren, Ahna Lomas, Grace Lomas, Nathan Bancroft, Sophia Bancroft and Taylor Floyd; other family members include Samuel W. (Cheryl) Schrum, Jamie (Vickie) Schrum, Alison (Terrence) Schrum Rodgers, Debra McCarty, Tristan Rodgers, Logan Rodgers, and Jackson Rodgers.
Holly’s family, her husband, children and grandchildren brought her the greatest joys of life. Her children and grandchildren were the most important individuals in her life. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren become responsible, hard-working individuals who made positive contributions to society. Holly has many, many wonderful memories of times spent together; family trips to Disney, summers at the beach and winters skiing in the mountains at Greek Peak, NY. As the children grew Holly enjoyed hiking trips with Christopher to Glacier National Park and with all three children to the Canyonlands and Arches of Utah.
Holly and Rick traveled extensively throughout the USA. The family cruise to Alaska was a highlight. They were fortunate to travel to Peru to marvel at the historic vistas in Machu Picchu, the flora and fauna of the Galapagos Islands, the history and majesty of Spain and Portugal.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
