James "Budda" Howard

Budda was born March 29, 1964 in Southport, son for Robert Howard and the late Becky Howard.

Budda was a graduate of UNC Charlotte and worked for First Citizens Bank, for 33 years, where he held many executive positions, until he retired as Senior Vice President. In 2015, he purchased Emerald Isle Self Storage and later purchased Bogue Storage Park, both of which he ran in his retirement. He had previously served as President of both the Swansboro Rotary Club and the Jacksonville Rotary Club, as well as President of the Jacksonville Onslow Chamber of Commerce. Budda had served on the Military Affairs Committee for Camp Lejeune,as well as participating in many other civic committees and church positions to include being an ordained Deacon. Budda enjoyed going to the Carolina Panthers football games.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his two children, Riley Howard and Coley Howard; two grandchildren, Brody Howard and Paisley Howard; a brother, Robbie Howard; a sister, Catherine "Coo" Hocker and husband Shawn; several beloved nephews and a niece; the mother of his children, Phyllis Howard; and his best canine friend, Rusty.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 11, 2025 from 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm at Southport Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow the visitation at the church at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow the service in the Northwood Cemetery.
