Capt. Jimmy was born March 9, 1948 in Union County, son of the late Robert James Price, Sr. and Velma Mullis Price. He was known as the Top Flounder Authority, a legendary Carolina flounder angler. His seminars helped many fishermen bring in their large catch of the day. Anyone who attended boat shows, seminars, hired him as a guide, or just stopped by Wildlife Bait and Tackle knew they had met a true Southern man that fulfilled his passion of fishing. He held the title of “North Carolina’s #1 Trophy Flounder Authority” and was extremely proud to tell anyone who would listen. A humorous man, he always kept your attention while learning essential information. He was a major fixture at the Salt Water Sportsman National Seminar Series and shared his expertise on catching flounder, trout, and redfish. For the last ten years, Capt. Jimmy held The Mighty Mite Tournament to help raise money to buy Christmas gifts for many less fortunate kids in our area. A large jug rests on the counter of the Tackle Shop and collects spare change from customers to help fulfill this mission that was dear to his heart. Capt. Jimmy will be greatly missed but now the fish can rest a little easier. Preceding him in death was his son Jamie Price.
Survivors include his son Donnie Price and wife Frances of Boiling Spring Lakes; daughter, Beverly Price of Southport; mother of his children, Mary Price of Oak Island; special friend Sue Wiles of Boiling Spring Lakes; brother, Jackie Price and wife Judy of Monroe; sisters, Sue Muska and husband Mike of Monroe, Barbara Jean Price of Monroe, and Vicki Vanderbush and husband Kim of Monroe; 4 grandchildren, Mark Price, Bradley Phillips, Devinne Carmichael, and Rachel Seckman; and finest canine companion, Monkey.
