

He was born on August 22, 1942 in Brunswick County, NC, son of the late Claude and Esther Sellers. James Robert grew up learning to plow, crop, and pick the fields on the farm. After high school, he went into the Navy and served his country for seven years. After working at Babcock and Wilcox in Wilmington, he moved to the Nuclear Power Plant in Southport where he worked as a welder and moved up to Quality Control until retirement. Net fishing was his enjoyment. He also enjoyed taking trips with his wife. Also his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids were his life. One of his last statements was "I love all my children and grandchildren."
James Robert was preceded in death by the love of his life for 51 years, Waynea Lee Johnson Sellers(Toots); a daughter, Shelby Sellers; a great-grandson, Parker Jesse Goodrich; and two sisters, Delores Lynch and Minnie Sellers.
He is survived by two children, Tina Sellers of Lexington, SC, and Robert Sellers and wife Shandi ("Sandi") of Wilmington; nine grandchildren, Erica Ratcliffe, Nicole Panor, Jason Goodrich, Michael Rivenbark, Madison Stanley, Shayna Rivenbark, Alyssa Sellers, Madison Sellers, and Christopher Howard; nine great-grandchildren; Ashanti Price, Josiah Hankins, Charlotte Panor, Summer Goodrich, Henry Panor, Carter Ferrari, Taelyn Price, Kayson Mercer, and Baby Mercer on the way; a sister, Barbara Holden; and his grand-dog, Waffles who stayed by his side and kept him laughing.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at Antioch Baptist Church. The burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, November 24, 2025 in the Peacock - Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel.
