I'm reeling.  I didn't know about it because I left NC in February. We spent the better part of 5 years together; he was unique, witty, clever, ornery, generous, forgiving, accepting and genuine ... He loved Little Debbie snack cakes and Orange Crush soda; in the morning, he would enjoy a little bit of cereal with his bowl of brown sugar :-) He named my scooter the 'Putt-Putt', and he loved my girls like they were his own grandchildren.  His wife passed away this past Mother's Day, and he passed away on her birthday. When we met, I called him Jones, instead of Jim, and it stuck- even his wife called him that. This is such a chilling reminder to be present, truly present, every day. We never know when the last time is the last time. 
Jones... I hope you know how very special you are to me, Meghan and Mallory James 💔

I knew Jim for a number years through our mutual involvement with the National Association of Letter Carriers, and he was a great union leader, a good and sympathetic friend to both me and my wife, and he will be greatly missed.

 I worked with  Jim when he was a Regional Administrative Assistant for Region 13 National Association of Letter Carriers.  He was a dedicated, knowledgeable and strong unionist.  I always enjoyed talking with him and viewed him as a friend. I, as many others, will miss Jim.  Rest in Peace union brother!

From every Officer, Steward or Letter Carrier that Jim Sherfey helped in one way or another from Old NALC Branch 3939 Gaithersburg MD and Rockville MD Merged Branch 3825 in Region 13  we thank you for your hard work and dedication.  When we phoned , no matter how difficult the question or issue was we knew if it couldn't be solved  right away it would be a few hours later. We will miss you our friend. 

A lot of you all knew him as Jim, but I’m proud to say I knew him as my grandpa. My grandpa was one of the most humble and loving people I knew. He would always bring donuts to me and my brother when he would visit, and he always remembered birthdays. He was an amazing human being to everyone he knew. Until I see you again❤️ LLJ

RAA Sherfey (as I remember you), thanks for the time you shared with me during NALC Leadership Academy at the Region 13 Office.  You shared invaluable information and was very patient with me.  Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.  I will keep it alive by sharing with others.

On behalf of Branch 3520 and Region 13, Jim we want to thank you for your hard work and dedication to representing letter carriers of Branch 3520 and Region 13. Jim was the branches first Vice President after the merger with Annandale Branch. Jim held this position for 27 years before becoming a RA for Region 13. Jim your humor and laughter will be missed by many in the NALC family.

We became good friends almost from the start when I was hired to work at the Baileys Crossroads station in Falls Church in 1978. At that time Jim was Vice President of NALC Branch 3520.  Jim served our branch for many years and in 1999 went to work with our Region 13 National Business Agent. 
He was a dedicated Union member & officer but most importantly someone I will always consider a friend.
