Born on July 29, 1963 in Anoka County, MN, she was a daughter of James Hamm and Mary Gelhaus.
Joan woke up each day with a zest for life and a spirit of generosity. Her infectious smile and glass half full attitude left a lasting impact on others. She found joy in the mundane, like playing Yahtzee with her family and finding shells on the beach.
Joan is survived by her daughters, Annie Burns and partner Patrick Sisk, of Chicago, Il and Abby Burns, and fiance Luke Milefchik, of Ankeny, Iowa; her life partner, David Edwards of Oak Island; her siblings, Jon Hamm of Charlotte, NC, Kathy Leidig of Circle Pines, MN, and Thomas Hamm of Lino Lakes, MN; her dog, Cassie; and numerous extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Diane Vie.
A service in Oak Island and Minnesota will be announced in the future.
