

John Joseph Fahey, age 82, of Middletown, DE passed away peacefully at his son’s home on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 in North Carolina. John was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, caring Uncle and friend to many. He mentored through example for all of us, and when asked offered advice to many of us. He shared and lived his life through his faith in God.
John worked for the DuPont company for 27 years as a Research Technician at the Experimental Stations polymer products business unit before retiring in 1993. He was a dedicated and proud DuPonter who shared his humble beginnings working as a bartender at the DuPont family holiday events in Greenville, DE. During his tenure and after, he enjoyed travels to Holland and throughout Europe and the US with the love of his life Marie Grygo Fahey, his wife of 51 years. John lived every day since Marie’s passing discussing his love and longing for his reunion with Marie with all he came in contact with.
John was blessed as an artist and was known for his oil paintings and wood bird carvings that he once sold but mostly just shared with friends and family. John served his country with 10 years as a Staff Sergeant in the Delaware Army National Guard. John was born on January 19, 1939 the son of Theresa (Tessie) Dudziak Fahey and Thomas Fahey of Wilmington, Delaware, brother Thomas John Fahey of Supply North Carolina and brother Francis Paul Fahey of Wilmington Delaware. John will be dearly missed by his son Mark Fahey, daughter in law Paula Fahey of Oak Island, NC, sister in law Dorothy Stringer, brother in law Adam Grygo, sister in law Ellen Grygo, five grandchildren, Ryan, Kelli, Michael John, Paul, Stacie, and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Michael Fahey.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Southport NC on Wednesday, March 31 at 11 am.
A private celebration of life event will be planned in Newark DE to be announced.
