

He was married for 54 years to his late wife, Beth Hart. He was a member of Oak Island Evangelical Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir. He was an elder and adult Sunday School teacher at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Monroe, NC, prior to moving to Oak Island. He was active in the community, at different times serving as president of the Monroe Jaycees, Sandy Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, and the Union County Fire and Rescue. Sid worked for the local newspaper, the Enquirer Journal, for many years, beginning as a sports editor, news editor, managing editor, and editor.
Sid is survived by his daughter, Laura Rowland; a son, Randy Tarleton; his grandchildren, Chloe, Carson, and Carleigh Rowland; his nieces, Lelani Cress and Donna Yates; and several great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Sid was predeceased by his brother, Louie Hart, Jr and his wife, Callie.
A graveside service will be held at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Monroe, North Carolina on November 14, 2025 at 130pm.
In lieu of flowers donations are welcomed at Oak Island Evangelical Presbyterian Church (oipres.org) in his memory as well as Coastal Bringing Up Down Syndrome of SENC (coastalbuds.org) in honor of his grandson Carson Rowland.
