

John L. Rose Jr., 83, resident of Southport NC, Caswell Beach, NC and formerly of Closter, NJ died peacefully at home on May 28, 2018. He was born in Teaneck, NJ on May 20, 1935 to Jack and Jean Rose and was preceded by his parents and sister, Lorraine Rose McClintic. John graduated from Closter High School in 1953 and joined the USMC and proudly served for four years. He joined the Closter PD in 1960 as a Patrolman and was one of the first police officers to receive an Associates Degree. After 36 years of service, he retired in 1996 as of Chief of Police.
John was active in the community, serving the town as an active member of the Closter Knickerbocker Hook & Ladder Company as a firefighter and was a member of the First Aid Squad for over 50 years. Additionally, for many years John served as a volunteer Baseball and Football coach for the Closter Recreation Department.
John was an active member of the Closter Lions Club and a past President of the Southport, NC Lions Club as well as being a member of the Closter Mr. & Mrs. Club of Saint Mary’s. During his retirement he served on the Caswell Beach town council. John enjoyed travel, golf and time spent sunning on Caswell Beach.
John is survived by the love of his life and wife of 58 years, Louisa Van Nahl Rose, his daughter, Victoria Rose and son John L Rose III and his wife, Cindy of West Palm Beach FL. Adored by his grandchildren, Amanda Lorusso Leone and husband Bill, Ryan J. Ledermann and his partner, Amanda Fogagnoli. He will be missed by his Sister and Brother-in-Law, Anita and Donald Webster, nieces and nephews Monica and Eric Monday, Helms Monday, Jennifer Taylor and Alexia Bostic and also James Lederman of Closter.
The family is grateful for the warmth and assistance of Coastal Companions, most especially Angelina Totter and in his final days, Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
A celebration of his life will be held at Peacock - Newman & White Funeral Home in Southport on June 16 from 1-4pm. An additional memorial service will be held in Closter at a Moritz Funeral Home on July 14 from 2-5pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or St Jude Children’s Hospital.
