

Mr. Roethke was born December 16, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York, son of the late Walter and Mabel Roethke. He attended King's Point Merchant Marine Academy and served in the US Navy. Jon received his law degree from Seton Hall University. He worked for Sea - Land Services for 38 years. Jon was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, Past-President of the Holy Name Society, lifelong member of the Somerville Elks Lodge 1068, and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Jon and his wife Mary met in Budd Lake, New Jersey when they were nine years old. They eventually married at the age of 21 and never looked back.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Williams Roethke; ten children, Jon Roethke and wife Maria, Mary Weaver and husband David, William Roethke and wife Melinda, Peter Roethke and wife Meghan, Anne Oller and husband Jay, Christopher Roethke and wife Cheryl, Katherine Pestrichelli and husband Jim, Matthew Roethke and wife Shelia, Clare Ramirez and husband Ralph, and Elizabeth McCallum and husband Adam; 24 grandchildren, Nicholas, Katie, Erik, Michael, Christine, Allie, Carlie, Billy, Hope, Patty, Jenny, Chris, Sarah, Emma, Abby, Kevin, Matthew, Katie, Will, Gillian, Shannon, Christian, Erin, and Kelly; two great-grandchildren, Elliot and Lainey; and a brother, W. Steven Roethke. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport. The family will have visitation at Peacock - Newnam & White Funeral Home on Monday, December 8, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
