Furman was born December 24, 1925 in Aberdeen, NC. He served honorably in the Merchant Marines during World War II, as well as in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 543 and the Southport Lions Club. Furman was employed in retail management by Clark’s of England for thirty plus years, and enjoyed thirty more years in retirement. Following his initial ten years of retirement on his farm in Stanfield, NC, he and his wife Martha moved to St. James in 1996. He was an avid fan of Duke basketball and old movies.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Louise Broadway, and his three sons Michael, Samuel, and Daniel Broadway, as well as his two grandsons, five granddaughters, and a great granddaughter.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM at Peacock-Newman & White Funeral Home on Monday, February 12, 2018, followed by a memorial service at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the Broadway’s would prefer donations be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, North Carolina 28422.
