Larry Ray Long, 81, of Southport, passed away peacefully at his home on March 6, 2019.

Mr. Long was born January 12, 1938 in Durham, NC to the late Raymond and Latefa Long. He was a 10 year veteran of the United States Coast Guard, and a career truck driver. Larry loved Duke basketball and the Carolina Panthers. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, as well as his love for animals.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years Judy Long; three sons Jeffrey Long and partner Esther Baumgardner of Southport, Joshua Long of Folkston, GA, and Jeremy Long of Wilmington; five daughters Julie Long of Baldwin, FL, Catherine Young and husband Bryan of Orange Park, FL, Lesa Long of Corpus Christi, TX, Brittany Long and Partner Patrick Sharkey of Southport, and Makayla Patrick of Southport; a brother Charles Long of Southport, 14 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm on Saturday, March 9, 2019 in the Peacock - Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel.

My dad was the strongest man I know and fought hard to stay with us for as long as he did. He will be in my heart forever and I look forward to being able to see his smile and hear his laughter again one day. Dad, I miss you and love you so much.
