

Margaret Mary Ward Lenihan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice, in Bolivia NC after a long and courageous battle with multiple myeloma and other serious medical issues.
Born on March 30, 1932 in Washington Heights, New York City. She graduated from Julia Richmond High School, and attended Incarnation Catholic Church, in New York City. Marge went to work for Metropolitan Life Insurance company, and met the love of her life, John Lenihan and was married on September 13, 1952. She raised 6 children, happily living in the same house in the Village of the Branch, Smithtown, New York for 53 years. In 2017 she and her husband relocated to Southport, NC; moving to St. James Plantation. Sadly, she was predeceased by 3 sons, Kevin, Thomas and James.
Surviving children are John Lenihan (Kathy),Theresa Mills (Bob), Kathleen Prettyman (Jeff) and their families. She has 11 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was a devout Catholic at St. Patrick’s RC Church, in Smithtown NY for 53 years and was extremely active in the Catholic Daughters of America, ultimately serving as Regent and then District Deputy. She loved visiting her children and grandchildren, traveling, and keeping up with many friends. For many years, she and John spent the winter months in Isla Del Sol, Florida. She will fondly be remembered as a very loving, caring, compassionate person; always willing to give - never expecting anything in return.
A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Southport NC at 12 noon on Friday September 13, 2019.
