Mrs. Candler was born May 7, 1946, daughter of the late Isaac and Cleo Clubb Suggs. Her love of music since the age of four prompted her to attend Central Wesleyan College and Atlantic Christian College, where she graduated with a music degree.
Mrs. Candler worked as a teacher for several years, then taught private piano lessons until she became a substitute teacher for Brunswick County Schools. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Boiling Spring Lakes, where she played the piano for 40 years. She loved spending time with her precious grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 45 years, Robert Candler; son Chris Candler and wife Loretta of Boiling Spring Lakes; sisters Daphene Suggs of Tabor City and Clara Etheridge of Florida; three grandchildren, Zoe, Shae and Alec Candler; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 22, at First Baptist Church of Boiling Spring Lakes with Reverend John Roy officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Old Zion Wesleyan Church Cemetery in Tabor City.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service in Southport.
