

Michael Joyce, 65, of St. James, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025. Born on August 6, 1960, in White Plains, New York, he was the eldest child of the late John V. and Irene Joyce. He attended Holy Name of Mary parochial school in Croton-on-Hudson, New York before attending Croton-Harmon High School.
Croton was where he developed a love for nature and scouting, even achieving Eagle Scout. It is where he excelled in athletics and met some of his closest lifelong friends, who lovingly nicknamed him “Pooh Bear.” He went on to play Division I Lacrosse at Rochester Institute of Technology. Upon graduation, he returned home to Croton where he married his beloved wife, Cathy, in 1992 and welcomed his children, Erin and Ryan, in the years that followed.
Mike’s life is best characterized by his unwavering devotion to his family and community. He spent nearly 15 years assisting in youth and high school sports, coaching hundreds of young athletes and serving as the Catholic Youth Organization’s basketball director for St. Augustine Parish in Ossining, New York. Some of his fondest memories were driving up the Hudson River to cheer on the West Point football team with family and friends.
Upon retirement, Mike and Cathy settled in St. James Plantation, North Carolina where he loved playing golf, walking on the beach, and spending time with many new friends. Mike’s life was always full of kindness, friendship, and gratitude.
Mike is survived by his wife of 33 years, Catherine Joyce; his daughter, Erin, and her husband, Steven Santini; his son, Ryan; his grandchildren, Chase and Chelsea. He is also survived by his three siblings, John, Robert, and Ruth, their spouses and children; his mother-in-law Elaine Habib; brothers-in-law Raymond Jr. and Thomas Habib, and their families.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his father-in-law, Raymond Habib, Sr., and brother-in-law, John Habib.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, November 21, 2025 at St. Augustine Church, 381 N. Highland Ave., Ossining, NY 10562.
An additional service will be held at a later date in Southport, NC.
