Born April 9th, 1943, in Charlotte, N.C, Mickey was the daughter of Nancy Bradford Neely and John Starr Neely, a World War II veteran. Mickey grew up in Charlotte along with her three siblings. sister Linda and brothers Buck and Jimmy. As a young adult Mickey was often mistaken as the popular model of the time “Twiggy” because of her short hair and petit size. She began working for Southern Bell at the young age of 18. Here she met many of her life long friends as well as the love of her life Jerry Dale Bare. Jerry and Mickey were inseparable and created an dynamic life of adventure and happiness. They built their dream home at Lake Norman and raised their two loving daughters Lisa Renee Bare and Katherine Leigh Bare. Mickey retired at age 48 and spent the last twenty years of her life on Oak Island surround by a cherished group of friends and as a devoted parishioner at Oak Island Evangelical Presbyterian Church. She found endless joy in being a grandparent. Many summer weeks were spent at grandma’s house fishing, going to yard sales and exploring. Mickey’s sweet spirit, zest for life and devotion to God made her a very special lady to many people. She will be sorely missed by all those she touched, but we know she at peace with her beloved Jerry.
