Mitzi was born June 6, 1962, in Florence, South Carolina, daughter of the late William Anthony and Mary Lou Jacobs.
Mitzi was a graduate of The Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing, class of 1984. Throughout her nursing career, she held multiple roles, provided excellent patient care in all of them, and was always at the top of her game with regards to her knowledge base and skill set. Her career began as a NICU registered nurse at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. From there she transitioned to a member of the initial/inaugural air and ground transport program for neonatal and pediatric patients created by Baptist Hospital. She eventually assumed the role of Transport Coordinator and maintained that position until 2005. After she and Barry relocated from Winston-Salem, she stepped away from neonatal and pediatric care and began a career involving the preoperative and postoperative care of surgical patients. She continued in this role until her death.
Outside of her professional career, Mitzi was a multifaceted woman with many interests outside of her professional career. She had a passion for knitting and a love for gifting knitting projects to friends and family. In recent years, stained glass and pottery became new interests she found stimulating and rewarding. As in her professional career, her skill set in her hobbies and avocations was superior and held in high regard by friends, family, and colleagues.
Mitzi loved physical fitness, until recent years was a passionate runner, and more currently, was very active in exercise classes as a loyal member of Cape Fear Fitness.
Her diverse interests also included fashion and home decorating. Anyone who knew Mitzi will remember her for her fashion sense, perfectly coordinated outfits, and her ability to perfect an eclectic style for home decor.
Traveling to Charleston, SC, where she and Barry first met and to the mountains of North Carolina were favorite places she embraced when not at the coast of North Carolina. She always enjoyed a great dining experience with Barry, friends, and family.
She is survived by her husband, Barry Amerson; her three fur babies, Coco, Earl Grey, and Beau; her brother, Tony Jacobs and wife Michelle; two nephews, Jacob Robbins and Seth Robbins; and a niece, Leah Vasquez. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Robbins.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
