Heartfelt condolences to Paul’s wife and steadfast caregiver for the last several years, Paulette; his children, Michael and Shannon; and his sister and my wife, Nancy; as well as his grandchildren, relatives and friends.
Although I too was saddened to learn of Paul’s passing, I also felt a sense of relief that he would no longer have to overcome the many challenges that stemmed from the complex health issues he somehow mustered the strength to endure over the last several years. He was a warrior in that regard, a model of courage in the face of repeated adversity, and a true inspiration. It goes without saying that he will be missed.  



Many late night memories with Paul and Paulette when we lived across the hall from each other in that garden apartment in Webster, then meals and music in your big yellow house just beyond Empire and Culver in the city.  I'm tumbling down Memory Lane here thinking how Paul and I and his Buffalo crew ran into John Prine and Steve Goodman at the Mariposa Folk Festival up in Toronto. Long time ago. Time and distance come between but I mourn the loss of a dear friend. Sincere condolences, Shannon, on the passing of your Dad, and Paulette, my heart is heavy. No star shines; no bird sings.

So sad to hear about Paul's passing. I will keep you  all in my prayers.

My deepest condolences to Paulette and the Lombard family who provided Paul such loving care. 

As I reflect on Paul’s friendship and life, he was one who dug deep and played hard as a competitive but gentle warrior who followed the rules.  His deep sense of fairness was evident at the euchre table where deal stealers were lectured which of course became a contest to steal Paul’s deal, usually after a few distractions like beer. 

We shared a love for running and golfing among other pursuits.  His fitness acumen and running advice helped get me to Boston which is a special bond for marathoners.  And in 2000, Team Lombard-Craft earned the Victor golf league championship after a see-saw battle all year.  Every course has “favorite” holes and ours was hole #16 South.  With a sizeable fairway pond 230 yards from the tee, you could sail or roll it in or you wait until the second (or fourth) shot.  So we lost a fair number of balls in this quagmire; I would cuss at times while Paul would stoically grimace and dig deep (starting with another ball or two for the both of us).  Our antics and Paul’s calm dignity at “Paul’s Pond” will always be etched in my memory.

Paul was a great friend and I love him like a brother. I am going to miss him. We ran our first  marathon in Buffalo and at least 12 others and thousands of miles training.
He was a great guy and had a great sense of humor. It was always a good time being around Paul and his family.
