Raúl was born in Placetas, Cuba to Jorge and Isabelle Aude, who emigrated from Lebanon to Cuba in the 1920’s. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Salim Aude, and his beloved sisters, Dr. Victoria A. Quinn and Julia A. Muñoz. Raúl began medical school at the University of Havana and later finished his degree at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He completed his residency at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY and practiced internal medicine in Upstate New York for 30 years. He was well-loved by his patients; his motto was: “A good doctor treats the person, not just the symptoms.” After retirement in the late 1990’s, Raúl moved with his family to Southport. Throughout his life, his passions were stamp collecting, gardening, winemaking, and playing pool with his friends at the Southport Senior Center. He was an extensive traveler, visiting 79 countries. He loved to tell stories about his experiences both in Cuba and as a medical doctor. He will be remembered as a great father and husband, his sense of humor and his lovable Cuban accent. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Magdalena; his son Dr. George Raúl Aude and wife, Lauren Eversole, of Tallahassee, FL; and his daughter, Desiree Magdalena Aude, of Southport, NC.
The family will have a private ceremony at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church.
The family would like to thank the caring staff of Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter in Supply.
