Rhett Allen Blackmon of Oak Island, NC, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. He was 60 years old. Those who knew Rhett would tell you he was kind, hard-working, and honest. Rhett traveled many paths in his 60 years. He owned a corner store, worked as a chemist, and built custom homes. His passion was construction, and he was knowledgeable, talented, and thorough. He loved to spend his free time reading and being with his family. Family meant everything to Rhett, and he always enjoyed his time with them. He loved taking spontaneous trips with Bobbie, his wife of 30 years, and spending time with their children Paige and Hunter.
Rhett was his children's biggest hero. He spent time with them any way he could, helping with house projects, taking them on trips, or stopping by for lunch. Rhett loved his furry work companion, Maize, a beautiful Australian Shepherd who never left his side. Rhett would tell you that his most outstanding achievement was becoming a "Paw Paw" to his grandson Huck ( 3) and granddaughter Hallie Rhett ( 6 months ). Rhett touched so many lives during his time on earth and continued after death by being an organ donor. He always left people better than he found them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hunter and Judy Blackmon of Heath Springs, SC.
Rhett is survived by his wife, Bobbie Blackmon of Oak Island; his daughter, Paige Morgan, and her husband, Ryan Morgan of Southport; his son, Hunter Blackmon of Oak Island; his grandchildren, Huck (3) and Hallie Rhett (6 months) of Southport; a special niece Ashlyn Boykin and her husband Brandyn of Lake Wateree; a close brother and sister in law Jeff and Leanne Crouch of Oak Island; nephew Brandon Crouch and Josie Moll of Southport; niece Keri Brinson and husband Jeb along with their son Beau of Southport; brother Brett Blackmon; sister Janet Blackmon Morgan and nephew Aaron Blackmon.
