OBITUARY

Richard Bertrum Ihlefield

August 8, 1959July 28, 2020

Richard B. Ihlefield, born 8/8/59, broke on through to the other side, in his own stubborn style, on 7/28/20 ‘cause heavens grass needed mowin’.

His beautiful soul is now reunited with his mother Shirley Martin, his fathers Walter (Dick) Ihlefield Jr. and Larry (Cabbage)Martin; his sister Deborah Banks and his brother Michael Ihlefield.

Rick was a "great wife" to Melissa Lilore and none of us ladies could ever fill his shoes. Those left behind to cherish the life, honor the memories, and keep his flowers alive include his sisters Terrie Ihlefield Foster, Cindy Martin and Melissa Ihlefield; Walter (Judd) Ihlefield, Glenn Bayley and Tracy Ihlefield; his daughters Ashley Hughes, Kayla Ihlefield, Shelby Ihlefield, Kyleigh Camposanto; his sons Brandon Hughes, Christopher Ihlefield, Logan Camposanto; his grandson Colton Wicker and all of his “ding dongs” and “bone heads” otherwise known as nieces and nephews. Lastly, we must include his life long friends that Ricky made anywhere and everywhere he went.

If we never meet again, this side of heaven, we’ll meet you on that beautiful shore...

A celebration will be held at a later date and time.

In honor of Ricky, please keep a sense of humor (if you don’t have one, get one) laugh good gut laughs and share them, grow some flowers and love from the depths of your soul.

Online condolences will may be sent to www.peacocknewnamwhite.com.

We remember Rick as the hardest working guy who helped us transform two houses on Oak Island into wonderful properties. We enjoyed spending the times with him as he worked like crazy to do what he did. He was always such a hard worker that became a very special friend. We are saddened by his passing but we will treasure the memories of his time with us. Heaven has a new angel while we lost a great guy here on Earth. Rest In Peace, my friend.

Oh, My Rickles. I don’t even know where to begin...
When I first met you, I knew I found a forever friend. We’d talk for hours on the phone about everything in life. We helped each other through some of the darker moments life tends to throw our way. One of the greatest things you’ve ever said to me was “If you’re thinkin’ long, you’re thinkin’ wrong”. For a decade, I’ve used that phrase to get through the more confusing decisions I've had to make in life. I know I’ll carry that with me forever. It was comforting to know the other was there. One of my favorite things you used to tell me was how you’d visit the local nursing home. You didn’t have family or close friends there but you enjoyed bringing the patients little gifts, talking with them & brightening their day. It’s one of the sweetest most selfless things one can do. You did that and more with joy in your heart.
I grew to realize that wasn’t just one of the kind things about you.
Everything you did was from the heart. You loved deeply and selflessly. You were a natural born caregiver who’d anticipate another’s needs and act on that without question.
I will cherish the love, laughter and tears we shared over the years.
Thank you for being you and sharing yourself with me.
Thank you for loving my Melissa and loving her children as your own. You helped give Logan tons of extra love, positive life experiences and guidance I know I know he’ll keep with him forever.
I cannot believe you’re gone. It feels like a terrible nightmare that I can’t wake up from. I’m so glad I got to see you and spend some time with you again a few months back. I’m grateful you finally met my little girl.
Life works in such mysterious ways. We here on earth will never understand why these awful things happen to such great people.
I imagine you now in heaven, whole and strong once more, doing what you love and having the answers to the questions we have always wondered about.
Rickles, I’ll miss & love you forever.

I remember the first time I met Rick, we talked for about 20 minutes and it dawned on me that I couldn’t understand a damn thing he said... I called his language rickanese... I knew right away that I liked him and that he was just a good guy and we quickly became friends.
Our world just got a little more boring without Rickles... I’ll miss him always

Well, “Damn it Gumby”, how I hate to miss you this way. But “Oh, Happy Day”!!!! You aren’t in pain any longer and you are surely catching up on so much with Granny, Mom, Uncle Mike and Papaw. Until we meet again I will always smile at the thought of you and the endless smiles and laughs you gave with every word that came out of your mouth. I love you more than the whole wide world and universe. “Say Bye”.

To all of Rick’s family and friends. I knew Rick Or Ricky from YHS. I remember him as a party friend but also so much more. As I look back he is one of those individuals that leave their mark on your life and growth as a human. To me, Rick was a strong independent fun individual. He was a good friend and a really good human who made sure I knew he was my friend and gave me support and friendship freely. I gained confidence and strength from his friendship and will be forever thankful and appreciative for that. Rick made my life better and helped make me a better person. Thanks Rick, I am sure you did the same for many many others!

We have so many fond memories of hanging out and having (Uncle) Mike make us a late night dinner. But one that has always stuck with me was when Shelby was little and My Gracie was little, Rick would come over to our house to let the girls play. He adored his children. They were two peas in a pod.

Lots of love and prays,
Malisa and Tray Bivins
