Dick was born on September 12, 1955 in Athens, Pennsylvania. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Walter & Charlotte Keegan and his sister, Jannie Farr.
Dick was also preceded in death by his faithful companion “Princess”. Dick saved Princess as a puppy, nursed her back to health and for 15 years she was his fur-ever friend. If there is a place in the after-life for little dogs, we’re sure Princess greeted Dick with her tail wagging.
Mr. Keegan is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Linda Keegan, two children, Charles and Amanda Keegan, two-step children, Laura Speary and husband Brian, Lynette Tharp and husband Bret, two brothers Charles Keegan and wife Deanna, and John Keegan and wife Teri, two sisters Connie Young and husband Jerry, and Rita Cori and husband George, a brother-in-law Thomas Farr, eight grandchildren including Ross, Keith, Marissa, Mattie, Josie, Alexis, Riley and Levi and his current rescue pets Rosie, China, Shadow & Bobo.
After retiring from Borg-Warner Tech in Ithaca, NY in 2006, Dick spent his time travelling, golfing, hunting, bird-watching – basically any excuse he could find to be outside. He volunteered with the Spencer Volunteer Rescue Squad and drove shuttle carts at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Some health issues the past few years tried to slow him down, but didn’t stop him. The highlight of his day was checking on his neighbors…ensuring they were doing fine, didn’t need his help with an outdoor task or just chatting with them. He was recognized and well-loved by everyone in his neighborhood.
Following his wishes there will not be a traditional memorial service. With the help of his loving neighbors and best buddies the family will have a celebration of life gathering – date to be determined.
The family asks that you honor Dick’s life by making contributions to your favorite local emergency crew, police department or animal rescue sanctuary.
